Florence is a city of dazzling beauty, but during the summer it is definitely incandescent! To fight the august heat, the typical Florentine is always equipped with his easygoing and ironic figures of speech! We will reveal a small heatwave survival guide, to make the most of summer in the city or, why not, to take a quick trip to the beach!

To get a bit of fresh air on the riverbanks, go to the "spiaggine", true urban beaches in Piazza Poggi equipped with umbrellas and deckchairs on the Arno. Between an ice-cold drink and a cocktail on the terrace, you can have a magical evening. Provided you don’t forget the mosquito repellent!

When the heat is truly unbearable, however, the Florentine will tell you that he is "abbollore", that is, so hot he feels he is being boiled! The most immediate and delicious remedies in the summer heat are popsicles, "ghiacciolino", or ice cream. A typical Florentine will tell you that the best gelato flavor is "Buontalenti", the famous Florentine cream of which we told the story, renamed with the name of its brilliant creator. Moreover, Florence is a true ice cream capital: in fact, the All Star edition of the Gelato Festival will be held here in mid-September. After the European tour, the gelato champion will be crowned before flying over the Atlantic for the U.S. edition.
If you really can’t take it in the city, you can escape "a'immare", to the beach that is, for a refreshing dip. Don’t forget to bring a towel, sunscreen, and a refreshing snack: the Florentine under the umbrella feasts on “cocomero”, watermelon, and "popone", melon, the latter accompanied with a nice platter of Tuscan cold cuts for a light and tasty dinner.

So, are you ready for a typical Florentine summer?!
