This week, rightoutside Accademia Europea di Firenze in Via Cavour, something unexpected caught our attention.A small table. A typewriter. And a simple idea: sit down, talk… and receive a poem.
In the heart of Florence, where art is everywhere, this felt different, quieter, more personal. People stopped, sat for a moment, shared a few words… and watched them come to life on paper.
Of course, we couldn’t resist.
We sat down, talked, and listened to the rhythm of the keys as our own poem was written in real time; a reflection on Florence, on community, and on what it means to truly experience this city.
Here is the poem we received:
Accademia Europea di Firenze:
We are here in Via Cavour in the overhead blues of Firenze, gaining our colours and warmth for the day: we see these passersby, intrigued by the sounds, wandering what words might fall upon my page. I write now of togetherness, of being part of this great community of Firenze: a city that embraces you, opens its ars to you andand guides you through the day. These people with theircharms, caring for you and pausing always to start a conversation.
In Florence we are reminded of all the great virtues, of quiet moments of introspection before the greatest artworks ever gifted to us; of bustling, vibrants nights in the city. Soak it up. Come here and learn. These roots are secure, these shoots green, these flowers blooming and waiting only for you with your wings to dip by and drink from its golden nectar. Come learn. Come live - - the Accademia has its doors always open to you. You need only step through them.
