From morning classes at Accademia Europea di Firenze to afternoons exploring the city's markets and evenings spent over aperitivos, my first week in Florence has been a whirlwind of new experiences. Already at a B2 level in Italian, I came here hoping to challenge myself further and experience daily life through the language. After only one week, Florence has already exceeded my expectations.
At Accademia Europea di Firenze, my week is split between grammar and conversation classes. I really like the balance; while grammar gives structure, conversation classes are relaxed, fun, and a great way to use the language in real time. The people here have made a huge difference too. Everyone is incredibly friendly and open, which creates acomfortable and welcoming environment for speaking Italian without worrying about makingmistakes.
One of the things that particularly struck me during my first few days was how beautiful Florence is around every single corner. Whether I was heading to class or simply wandering through the city, I constantly found myself stopping to admire the architecture and atmosphere. Santa Croce was one of the first landmarks that really made me feel that I was living in Florence rather than just visiting it.
The markets in Florence are truly like no other. They're full of colour, energy, fresh produce and local specialities. I always leave feeling as though I have seen a more authentic side to Florence. As someone who loves photography, I really enjoy bringing my camera along and capturing the vibrant colours and everyday joyful moments.
A favourite part of my week has been embracing the slower pace of life. Given that Florence is such a walkable city, I have been able to discover streets, cafés and hidden
corners that I would have otherwise missed. Florence seems to me a city best experienced by foot, where every walk, or 'passeggiata', becomes an opportunity to not only practice Italian, but to discover new things.

- Favourite meal : Ristorante Paoli's Parmigiana di Melanzane
- Favourite place: Il mercato centrale
- New phrase learned 🇮🇹: 'Avere le mani bucate' (to spend money like water - which I am definitely doing!)
- What I am looking forward to: A day-trip to Castiglioncello with new friends and AEForganised trip to Pisa!
If this is what my first week looks like, I cannot wait to see what the rest of my time in Florence brings....
