SUSTAINABILITY IN STUDENT LIFE

Welcome to a semester of learning, discovery, and responsibility

At AEF, sustainability isn't a lecture — it's something you do. During your semester in Florence, you can earn an internationally accredited certification, plant a tree that outlives your stay, work alongside Florentines to care for their city, and take part in the conversations that shape AEF's own climate decisions.

Each activity is a milestone. Together, they form a roadmap from awareness to action.

The Activities

A structured two-day training that deepens your understanding of climate responsibility and your own impact. Attend both sessions, then submit a Carbon Action Plan — realistic, measurable commitments to reduce your personal carbon footprint.

What you take home

A certification that counts

Internationally accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project, and yours to put on your CV.

A tree in Tuscan soil

Planted by you, recorded in our register, still growing long after you've gone.

A voice that changed something

Student feedback here has reshaped how we teach sustainability. That's on the record.

Habits that outlast the semester

The real point.

ACT SUSTAINABLE IN FLORENCE

A semester-long challenge: choose from a menu of real actions — plant-based eating, buying second-hand, community clean-ups, mapping eco-friendly businesses — each linked to a measurable CO2e reduction.

Florence as a living laboratory

Your classroom extends across Tuscany: clean-ups with Angeli del Bello, circular-economy visits to Peccioli and Revet, grassroots work with ZeroLab, and ethical, plant-based catering.

The real impact begins now.

Be involved. Be engaged. Be curious. Ask questions. Challenge assumptions. Seek better solutions. Carry these habits beyond this semester and into every space you enter: your university, your workplace, your community.

Take action, make an impact.
