A Month in Florence: An Experience Beyond the Classroom

My month-long stint in Florence was an unforgettable experience. The burning question is: how did I end up here? It all began even before I enrolled in the school. The team at Accademia Europea di Firenze was fundamental to the process, always ready to answer my countless questions and carefully guide me in choosing my course. This help made all the difference, allowing me to make the most of this journey.

Spending a period in another country — in my case, a month — goes far beyond mere tourism. During this time, you begin, in a way, to become a citizen of that city. Even if temporarily, you become part of the local community, experiencing daily life, understanding urban dynamics, how services function, and, most importantly, the customs and behaviours of the people who live there. It's an immersion that transforms your perspective on the place and on yourself. Florence, despite being a very touristy city, still retains its living essence, having been the birthplace and stage for some of history's most significant human creations, reflected in its artworks and vibrant culture.

To be perfectly honest, my expectations were sky-high, but the experience was even better than I'd imagined. Can you imagine standing in front of a work by someone you greatly admire, speechless at what you're feeling? Well, that's what happened to me at the Uffizi, before works by Da Vinci, Brunelleschi, Michelangelo, and other masters. The emotion of being there, amidst so much history and talent, is something that stays with you forever.

Beyond all this cultural richness, Florence is incredibly well-located in the Tuscany region, in central Italy, which allowed me to explore amazing nearby places. I visited Rome, Vatican City, Venice, Castiglioncello, Spiaggia Bianca, and Siena — and there was still so much more to discover! This diversity of cities and landscapes further enriches the experience, broadening my perspective and understanding of the country.

But, beyond learning about cities and their histories, the most special chapter unfolding here is the friendships that are blossoming. Meeting people from different places, exchanging experiences with those who have lived in the city for years or with those who are also here temporarily studying, makes everything richer and more fun. The outings, the conversations, the laughter — all of it creates bonds that go beyond the study period. And, of course, we're learning to speak Italian, mixing accents, and developing a unique way of experiencing this journey together, learning and seeing life in different ways.

This experience is enriching me in a way I can't fully explain. It's touching my soul, helping me to grow as a person and as a professional. That's why I've decided to stay longer here. I still have so much to explore, learn, and live. Stay tuned for the next chapters, because even I don't know how much more this city will surprise me!
