ART 2201: CONNECTING ART AND COMMUNITY IN FLORENCE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This undergraduate course explores the intersection of art and community building through the lens of creative placemaking. Students will learn about the principles of creative placemaking and work with local communities to create art that reflects the community’s identity and values. They will also learn how to map community assets, understand the complex dimensions of community wellbeing, and research the challenges and ethical considerations of creative placemaking, while interacting respectfully with diverse community members in Florence. This course will culminate in a performance developed by students, local artists, and community leaders.
