Italian Politics

Description

The course aims at analyzing the core elements of the Italian political system to understand change and continuity in the Italian political arena. The first part aims at reconstructing the main features of the Italian political system and culture as they developed after the second World War and the introduction of a democratic regime.
The second part of the course is dedicated to analysing the Italian political system.
This course will also explore the  concepts of economic policy, welfare, and mafia; democracy, political representation, populism, freedom, equality, globalization, sustainability, and regional integration. 

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will have the tools to:
a) develop an understanding of the contemporary Italian political system;
b) identify key historical moments;
c) apply different theoretical perspectives and concepts of political analysis to the Italian case and make comparisons to other countries;
d) improve oral communication skills and conduct research.
e) critically evaluate empirical data, policies, concepts, arguments and theories;
f) articulate their critical understanding through independent reading, oral presentations, group discussion and written communication.
