Florence has been a creative epicenter for centuries and immersing oneself in its beauty has always been a great source of inspiration for artists, writers, painters and stylists of all kinds. Among the Florentine women who accredited inspiration and genius to the city, Lietta Cavalli, undoubtedly stands out.

“Behind every great man, there is always a greater woman”; so goes the saying that now sounds obsolete. Very often, women are in fact, the accelerators and catalysts of inventiveness. Indeed, Lietta Cavalli was certainly the inspirer and initiator of a visionary and eccentric artistic style that a few years later would explode thanks to the Cavalli House, her brother Roberto’s Florentine label, who conquered the fashion world between animal prints and luxurious jungle patterns.

Mostly created between the 70s and 80s, the garments signed by Lietta, still today, embody a biting and futuristic glamor style, so much so that they are highly sought after and even displayed in various fabric museums across the world.

"Granddaughter of art" - her grandfather, Giuseppe Rossi, was a Macchiaiolo, whose works are exhibited at the Uffizi, and to which Roberto has dedicated an amazing collection; Lietta’s adventure, as a woman and artist, begins in the 60s, when her mother entrusts her with family tailor shop. It was at that moment that Lietta created Mali, a knitted collection of unique pieces of extraordinary beauty, individually packaged by hand in the Tuscan capital. Garments that are immediately recognized not as simple clothes, but as authentic pieces of art. Impalpable textures, transparencies and colorful details have helped make the designer a true style icon.

Lietta's fashion story ends in the 90s, when she decides to step away from the spotlight and the fashion system, to devote herself more closely to fabrics and furnishing accessories. Lietta Cavalli remains one of the most brilliant interpreters of fashion: her myth and her works remain undisputed, among the creations that have been able to combine genius and great Florentine artisan tradition.
