Florence: History and Curiosity

Throughout the world, Italy is synonymous with art and, you know, Florence is one of those cities where beauty is inhaled in every corner, from small shops to large architectural spaces. Living every day immersed in beauty is a stimulating opportunity that allows you to develop a sense of innate taste. It is therefore not surprising that many of the world's most beloved designers are Florentine.

frank lloyd wright As you may well know, our Accademia is located in the prestigious Palazzo Niccolini, on Via Cavour, on an axis that ideally connects Piazza del Duomo to Piazza San Marco. And yet, perhaps not everyone knows that the first Italian electric tram line, which connected Florence to Fiesole, was inaugurated on September 19, 1890, right from Piazza San Marco. And that twenty years later, along that road, one of the most brilliant and extraordinary architects of modern times stayed: Frank Lloyd Wright.

eccellenze guccio gucciThe Gucci company was founded in 1921, by Guccio Gucci in Florence. The founder, a born and bred Florentine, began his professional life as a young elevator-operator at the Savoy in London. This work experience allowed him to learn about English style, horses and riding, which later became fundamental points of the brand's heritage. It was then, in 1934, that the company introduced the bellhop brand with a suitcase and a travel bag.
