Perfect diction is essential for opera singers in order to make their performance linguistically understandable without altering the quality of the sound. Understanding what you are singing through correct diction helps improve your technical aspects as well as the formal and interpretive ones.
A teacher will guide the student in acquiring the right pronunciation, expressive nuances and correct emission of the Italian phonemes. Special attention is paid to the 7 vowel sounds, single and double consonants, correct accenting of the words, tonic and phonic accents, and syntactic doubling.
The Diction for Singers Course foresees a combination of breathing exercises (use of the diaphragm and correct phonation) and the study of intonation and rhythm.
The texts used come from the operatic repertoire and can also be suggested by the students themselves.
When you purchase a lesson package, the AEF Academic Secretariat will customise your timetable to offer you a tailored learning experience. The school arranges session times flexibly, matching your availability with the tutor's to ensure you get the best learning experience in Florence.
Organizational Note: Depending on the course type and the package purchased, the school may combine the individual 45-minute lessons into a single, more structured study session (for example, 2, 3 or 4 lessons combined into a single meeting lasting from 90 to 180 minutes). Consequently, the frequency and length of individual appointments may vary from week to week, without affecting the total number of lessons included in your package.
If you need to reschedule or cancel a lesson, please let us know by email or at the welcome desk by 6pm the day before, and we'll arrange a new time together. Lessons cancelled after this time, or missed without notice, cannot be made up.
